Given the original game featured no voice acting, the name of everyone’s favorite crown-wearing tuxedo cat was open to interpretation. While some pronounce Caith Sith as the name appears, “Kate Sihth,” others say it as it would be traditionally pronounced based on the name’s Gaelic origin, “Ket Shee.”
The Caith Sith debate was resparked following a recent push of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth news. Following Caith Sith’s surprise cameo appearance in Final Fantasy VII Remake, the feline’s increased role in the upcoming sequel has poured fuel onto a fire that wasn’t put out, just laid dormant over the last few decades. And even with Square Enix surprisingly chiming in with their official stance, some fans are still unconvinced.
From “Aeris” to “Aerith” and “Tee-dus” to “Tie-dus,” Final Fantasy is no stranger to name controversies. But, at the end of the day, no matter how you pronounce it, we’re all just excited to spend more time with Caith Sith when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on February 29, 2024.
